If you’re a pilates girlie, like moi, you’re probably familiar with Sami Clarke –wellness influencer and co-founder of the-oh-so popular fitness platform, FORM

As a woman with major sleep issues, I’m always on the hunt for evening wind-down routines that I can pilfer from…who better than a personal trainer from a long line of athletes? Regime and discipline are in her blood.

I knew this one was going to be good…

As I researched and analyzed Sami Clarke's evening routine, two things I noticed right off the bat: she’s all about prepping for the day ahead, and creating “vibes”. She makes a big effort in her wind-down to set the tone, whatever room of the house she’s in.

Once she’s off the clock, her evening is geared towards one of her most important wellness habits:

“I will say eight hours of sleep is one million per cent my go to for a night routine. So I try and get to bed pretty early so I can wake up early.”

Once she wraps up work at 5:30pm and changes into comfies, the vibes begin: she lights candles, puts on jazz and softens the lighting. “I’ve seen for myself that to be able to get into that kitchen and be excited about making food, it’s about creating this moment, this vibe,” she says.

While dinner is cooking she preps her morning probiotics (DS-01™ Daily Synbiotic) and breakfast (overnight oats).

She’s not against a bit of mindless reality TV while she eats–and once she’s wrapped her meal she heads back to the kitchen to make sure everything is super clean for the morning (the need to wake up to a tidy space is something I get 100).

By 7pm, she’s onto skin care–often applying  Bio-K probiotic as a facemask when she’s having a skin flare up. “I know this looks crazy but it really does calm my skin and helps with inflammation,” she says.

She then draws a bath with candles and epsom salts, “this helps me recover (muscles) and relax–plus it's great for my immune system,” she says. “It really helps the wind-down process. It instantly lets your body know we’re going into a different type of state,” she says.

Back to that regime and discipline thing: she sets a 15 minute timer while she reads fiction in the bath, then another 15 minute timer to respond to her DMs and community app.

She’s been known to slip on a red light mask and then it's on to tea with a splash of nut mylk. “Just like coffee, tea lets me know it's time to wind-down.”

At 8:30, it’s onto her favourite step, where she reviews her Google calendar and plans her next day. “I would tell anyone to do this because it has been a game-changer in my life. I used to do this in the morning and I found my mind was really scattered and overwhelmed.”

After she’s happy with her plan for the next day, she pops a few magnesium supplements and mixes it up with some stretches, journaling, breathwork or reading.

Again, the woman loves her vibes…her bedroom is lit up with a starry projector—which she keeps on while she does some visualizations. “I will actually lay in bed and visualize me in the next day, and what that looks like, and what I want to feel like.”

She says she feels quite a bit of anxiety when she’s home alone at night, and that her Eight Sleep mattress that cools and heats by morning helps her sleep better, especially when her boyfriend isn’t beside her in bed.

By 9:30,  it’s lights out so she can be early to rise at 5:30.
